Memorize Scripture

Taking God's Word To Heart

"I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

When you “hide” God’s word in your heart, you have the chance to let it be your guide, even without a Bible in front of you. Jesus modeled this during his temptation in the wilderness.

The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Matthew 4:3-4

Jesus knew the scriptures and took them with Him into everyday life. They were a powerful tool in the battles He would face. We can follow in His footsteps by memorizing the Word of God and taking it with us into our daily lives!

Free Scripture Memorization Flashcards

A free scripture memorization tool using visual flashcards was created by Michael Juracich from the Alafaya campus of Discovery Church. These Quizlet flashcard sets can help you begin memorizing scripture. The first example is below. There are more sets available at the bottom of this page.

To complete this step:
  1. Select a set from the Scripture Memorization Flashcards to memorize. Focus on that set for 1 week or until you have all the verses memorized. Share the verses you are learning with others. Begin to incorporate the truth of the verses into your prayers. When you have memorized one set you can either move on to another set or move on to another step in the Discovery Pathway.
Think this might be the next step for you?

Have a Growth Talk conversation about it! A Growth Talk is a chance to discuss with someone else the step you are preparing to take.
