Discovery Sports exists to connect people to Jesus by sharing the Gospel and getting the athletes plugged into Discovery Church. If you are already involved with Discovery Sports, your next step could be to serve as a commissioner of a sport. As a commissioner, you will be discipling the coaches of a sport and training them to disciple their players. You will be helping the coaches to grow in their ability to share their faith and their God story while using their sport as a pipeline for inviting others. You will be equipping and empowering the coaches of a sport to build an environment that provides the players a way to invite friends and connect to Jesus through sports.
If you are not already involved with Discovery Sports then becoming a coach of a team could be your next step. As an assistant or head coach you will be a part of leading a team that has both disciples and explorers. This is a great way to help the players grow in their faith or learn more about Jesus. As a coach you will be leading a team in inviting others. You will also grow in your ability to share your faith, your God story, and help the players take their next step in their faith. We all know people who don’t know Jesus yet and who would normally not be interested in going to church. But maybe they do like basketball, pickleball, running, or another sport. Discovery Sports allows you to invite your friends into an environment they are already comfortable with that includes a focus on connecting them to Jesus.
Ask God what he wants you to do about becoming a commissioner or a coach for a sport.
