Which Practice Should I Focus On?

Which Practice Should I Focus On?

The Six Practices of a Disciple are: Abide, Gather, Belong, Give, Serve, Invite. These practices are developed directly from the Bible and are all found explicitly in the Acts chapter two church. When we grow in the Six Practices we accomplish the mission of Discovery Church, which is to “Make disciples of Jesus”. Take a few moments to understand and reflect on the Six Practices in your life.

The Six Practices defined:
  • Abide: Living in an ongoing relationship with Jesus.
  • Gather: Participating faithfully in worship services.
  • Belong: Connecting with others for spiritual growth and support.
  • Give: Returning to the Lord a portion of what belongs to Him.
  • Serve: Investing my time and talents in God’s work.
  • Invite: Sharing my story, and the story of Jesus, with those who do not yet know Him.

Questions for reflection:

  1. In what practice have I been growing the most in the past year of my life?
  2. What practice has been slow to grow or neglected in the past year of my life?
  3. Is there a practice in which I feel I need training, instruction or coaching so that I can grow?
  4. Which of the Six Practices of a Disciple do I feel the most compelled to grow in this year?

In the growth plan that follows you will find many possible next steps that will help you grow in the 6 practices of a Disciple. A good place to start may be in the practice you feel the most compelled to grow in this year. After you explore the possible next steps in this growth plan please discuss them with a Godly person in your life using the Growth Talk tool.
